TOP TRENDS IN NEW YORK | CITY BY CITY

New York is without a doubt one of the most dynamic, diverse and creative cities in the world. Described as the cultural capital of the world, the importance of New York is reflected in its size and ethnic diversity.

Being a cultural center of almost mythic proportions, New York was celebrated by generations of artists, but it’s not only by Broadway plays and tv movies that we can experience the personality of this city.

Interiors in New York are as diverse as the people who live in them — from traditionally elegant Manhattan buildings, to Brooklyn funky loft apartments – the unique style reflects the city’s blend of cultures, ideas, and creativity.

New York is known for the many skyscrapers that provide large-scale living spaces with multiple rooms and architectural detailing. Similarly, as apartments have increased in size, so has their level of sophistication in terms of luxury interior decoration.

Lofts were originally commercial buildings and their architecture reflects this. NYC Lofts often have distinct architectural features such as high ceilings, large open spaces, exposed brick, large windows and columns.

Most lofts are designed with an open plan or open concept. This means you have a minimal amount of separation between the spaces, making the space feel larger and open. In an open concept loft, you will see a great room where the living, dining, and kitchen are all open to each other.

There are no strict rules about mixing up furnishings from different periods. The Art Deco motifs of the 1920s – think about romantic lighting, geometric shapes, and chevron patterns – could sit perfectly next to classic curves and more contemporary inspired furniture.

One interior trend of 2022 that is prevalent in this city’s style is the New Minimalism.

The key elements in this decor should be detail-oriented and high quality. Its signature includes exceptionally well-crafted furniture and a total lack of unnecessary decoration with the focus on one signature design piece.

The “less is more” approach is what makes it attractive and enables us to create spaces with a gallery like attitude and a more curated feel.

Art is a key element of decoration. This history of art is often present in New York homes as they make for great display spaces for private art collections.

Bedrooms can be quite minimalist, but they often have large windows with long curtains. These bedrooms can be decorated with artwork as the high ceilings create a lot of blank wall space. The furnishing and bedding should also work with the rest of the space to provide the right feel.

Think of a selection of luxurious fabrics and metallic or reflective surfaces, perfectly turned wooden furniture, some contemporary finishing touches and a stunning piece of artwork.

Kitchens are usually large and open. They can have islands or peninsulas and sometimes counter seating. In an open kitchen, the kitchen itself becomes a centerpiece of the design. Loft kitchens are modern and high-end using top of the line cabinets and appliances.

New York apartments are known for having very specific architectural characteristics. Their architecture comes from a rich history beginning with industrial use and the repurposing for artists’ lives/workspaces. Today lofts are some of the most luxurious residences in New York City.
