“Kaishin No Ichigeki” is a ramen shop in Okinawa designed by 07BEACH. The name which was picked by the owner personally, is a signature phrase from a popular retro vintage game.

Nowadays the quality and service of a restaurant is so important as the overall feel you get when you eat there. Many restaurants create buzz online, not only because they serve delicious food but also because of their Instagram-worthy places.

With nothing but the chosen name to work with, the architects drew inspiration from elements of early video games, such as dots, low-resolution, and pixels for the restaurant’s overall design.

07BEACH explains that the materials used in the restaurant are commonplace and inexpensive, including white ceramic tile, wood, cement, and carpet tiles.

The signboard outside that says “つけめん” (“Tsukemen” is dipping noodles, the shop’s signature) is made up of cubes that resemble 3D development of pixel art. The architect revealed that it is simply cubes of wood stacked and painted yellow.

According to the architect, the client initially wanted to keep them hidden, using something like a drawer to avoid having them on the tabletop and creating a mess.
Instead 07BEACH had a better idea, the architect designed the condiments as if they were an item you can get in a video game. The condiments were placed on pedestals that look like pixelated blocks.

07BEACH also added a seating area for groups that recalls the architecture of a game castle. The low wall separating this area from the rest of the space prevents children from falling off and creates some level of privacy.
