Visionnaire launches a new flagship store on Jumeirah Beach Road

Visionnaire launches a new store in Dubai at 908 Jumeirah Beach Road. The new flagship store, which occupies a villa in a high-profile residential compound, has a total surface area of almost 800sqm on two-storeys, complemented by a roof garden in one of the most sought-after locations on Jumeirah First beachfront.

“In a meeting of cultures with such an important purpose as redesigning a better future, Dubai Expo 2020 seemed to us the best context to celebrate the opening of our store” says Eleonore Cavalli, co-founder and art director of the brand “Visionnaire Dubai is a special space where you feel welcomed just like in a home. Thanks to the proximity to the sea and the large open space that the building is equipped with, it is possible to enjoy indoor and outdoor settings in perfect harmony and continuity. In dialogue with some brand’s bestsellers, the store showcases the very latest new collection, unveiled simultaneously in all Visionnaire’s flagship stores worldwide Milan, London, Miami, Los Angeles and Hong Kong”.

The villa’s various rooms are arranged around a central hall that serves as the starting point for the pathway that takes visitors through the store. One of the main living areas features the new Babylon Rack sofa, designed by Alessandro La Spada as an evolution of the iconic Babylon model. This product was conceived as a modular mini-architecture, featuring a number of functional elements developed for study, work and leisure.

The 2021 newcomers are perfectly complementary to the brand’s iconic pieces, such as the dining tables Kerwan, designed by Alessandro La Spada and Raidho designed by Steve Leung, featuring exclusive craftsmanship and a range of fine marble tops. The versatile new Caprice capsule collection, designed by m2atelier for interior and outdoor use, is showcased in the store’s outdoor areas that accompany visitors to the entrance of the Embassy. This space features the Ilario sofa and the Siesta sunbed, with its hallmark curves and rounded profiles. The shopping experience continues on the upper storey, that visitors reach by a stunning helical staircase, enhanced by the presence of a Pavone armchair showcased under the curved stairs. The second storey is home to a variety of solutions for the bedroom, including the Emotion bed by La Conca, the Beloved and C  Foscari beds designed by Alessandro La Spada.

“With this significant direct investment in Dubai – concludes Leopoldo Cavalli, co-founder and CEO – Visionnaire comes closer to its Middle Eastern clientele, for a simpler and more immediate purchasing experience”. This stunning, high-profile direct property branch, just a stone’s throw from the Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental and Bulgari hotels, will attend directly to the development of the Middle Eastern, African and Indian markets with its staff of architects, interior designers and sales managers. This opening is also an important milestone for Visionnaire, as the Dubai company was established without the need for a local partner, but as a direct investment in wholly Italian capital. It is one of the very first 100% Italian companies in the United Arab Emirates, undoubtedly the first in the home furniture sector, since only a few weeks ago the Emirate liberalised the establishment of companies in Mainland.

This operation was managed under the brilliant consultancy of John Shehata, a PWC TLS partner. This new challenge, which we decided to accept despite the countless uncertainties facing the global market, is a reaction to the protracted pandemic that has generated changes in consumption and travel habits”. On November 23rd for the official opening of Visionnaire Dubai, a press conference was held in the morning and an exclusive cocktail party in the evening, Under the auspices of the Embassy of Italy in the United Arab Emirates, with the participation of customers, professionals and prestigious partners from the most exclusive sectors: Rolls Royce Dubai for the automotive industry, Vacheron Constantin for high watchmaking, Omniyat one of the most visionary real-estate development and service groups in the Gulf Region, Jetex for global private aviation, Gulf Craft leading shipyards and manufacturers of the Luxury Yachts and  ınar for the artisan production of carpets.

The Address Beach Resort by Killa Design wins Hospitality Project of the Year award at Architecture Leaders Awards 2021

Killa Design picked up the Hospitality of the Year award for their The Address Beach Resort project.

The Address Beach Resort occupies a prime location on Dubai’s JBR beach and distinctly marks the end of Dubai Marina. The 77-storey tower is located on a multi-levelled landscaped podium and has a large central void extending over 50 floors.

The tower reconnects on higher floors by a sky-bridge which holds, the largest and most prominent apartments, restaurants, spa and gym and a rooftop sky-club with lounge and pool, positioned almost 294m above ground, making it both the highest infinity pool in the world as well as the highest inhabited skybridge in the world, all with unparalleled views of the Arabian Gulf, sunsets and the shoreline of Dubai.

The initial design brief called for a twin tower design; analysing the highly fragmented skyline of the Dubai Marina, we realized the importance of creating a pure, simple and timeless building form. Introducing a large dynamic void within the mass of the tower, opens the building to its surrounding context and increases daylight intake, while creating a distinctive gateway project for Dubai Marina.

The site offers an opportunity to locate the tower close to the beach and beyond the skyline of the remaining JBR beach; the building is therefore placed right at the setback limitation. The building is furthermore turned to not only offer direct views to Bluewater’s and Palm Jumeirah, but also offering excellent views along the beachfront itself.
The twin towers are orientated exactly on the East West axis as a first principle passive design sustainable measure to reduce solar gain on the façade of the building.

This singular design measure reduces the solar gain on the building by up to 40% whereby reducing the cooling and energy demands for the development.

Art Basel cancels its 2020 Miami Beach edition

Given the ongoing impact of the pandemic, which spans from South Florida to other parts of the country and the world, limitations and uncertainty about the staging of large-scale events, international travel restrictions and bans, as well as quarantine regulations within the United States and internationally, Art Basel has no other option but to cancel the 2020 edition of Art Basel in Miami Beach. Art Basel in Miami Beach was scheduled to take place from December 3 to December 6, 2020 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

‘It is with great regret and disappointment that we announce the cancellation of our December show in Miami Beach, as we know how crucial our show is for our galleries, as well as for the greater Miami arts community and economy. We thank everyone who shared their perspectives and insights with us over the past months and weeks and look forward to returning to Miami Beach next year to deliver a successful show,’ said Art Basel’s director Americas Noah Horowitz.

As the artworld continues to face momentous challenges, Art Basel remains firmly committed to supporting the global gallery community in the best way possible through its digital initiatives and by hosting its upcoming 2021 shows in Hong Kong, Basel, and Miami Beach. Two Online Viewing Rooms have been announced for the fall: ‘OVR:2020’, dedicated to artworks made during 2020 and running from September 23 to 26, and ‘OVR:20c’, which will feature works created between 1900 and 1999 and take place from October 28 to 31. These will be followed in December by further Online Viewing Rooms that will be open to all galleries accepted to the 2020 edition of Art Basel in Miami Beach. Further details will follow in the coming weeks.

The next edition of Art Basel in Miami Beach will take place from December 2 to December 5, 2021, with preview days on December 1 and December 2, 2021.

Here’s the first completed residence at Monad Terrace by Ateliers Jean Nouvel and developer JDS Development Group in Miami Beach by notable French-Moroccan interior designer, Rita Chraibi.

Throughout this 5,193sqft, four-bedroom residence, Chraibi’s signature design style uniquely fuses interior and fashion design with artistic expression to humanise the space. As an ambassador for renowned French furniture brand Roche Bobois, Chraibi derived inspiration from the furnishings of haute couture fashion icon Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection for the brand and curated furniture designs exclusively from this collection. By default, the residence reflects the most exceptional aspects of haute couture high-fashion and is an ode to the fashion house.

Chraibi also collaborated with distinguished contemporary art gallery Galleria Ca’ d’Oro to select pieces by Italian artist Marco Grassi and Lorrenzo Perrone that are evocative and offer a sense of wonder. The pieces in collaboration with Rita’s selection of haute couture Jean Paul Gaultier furniture pieces, together create a cross-section between fashion, art and design at the highest level, a true depiction of “French art de vivre”.

The residence features four bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths, a custom Gaggenau kitchen designed by Jean Nouvel, and a 42ft deep terrace with a Bayfront reflecting pool.

Here’s the design tour of this stunning apartment:

Montalba Architects, the Santa Monica-based architecture firm has completed a Southern California single-family residence designed to meld together indoor and outdoor programs by tethered courtyards and gardens. By highlighting elements of the natural landscape and emphasising decluttered simplicity, the firm demonstrates its unique expertise in integrating a sensibility to the program, materials, and natural light while maintaining a larger vision towards something conceptual in both residential and commercial projects.

The airy Venice Beach home was designed with the intent of blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces to achieve a warm, tranquil home. The design began with its exterior, to ensure the family could enjoy the perks of Southern California’s year-round mild climate. The general sense of warmth throughout the home is driven by the use of natural materials like wood. By contrast, the concrete block walls give the home an almost mid-century sensibility while clearly creating a dialogue with the wood and other earth tones. Woven into the home’s design are three ‘gardens,’ all varying in scale and function. The larger garden creates drama, while two smaller gardens allow for intimacy and moments of pause. A series of parallel datum walls constructed of concrete blocks anchor the gardens and organise the interior spaces around the exterior space.

“With this home, the clients were open to us guiding them toward the larger ideas and given Southern California’s temperate climate it was important to make spaces where they could enjoy the outdoors from anywhere within the home,” said founding principal David Montalba. “It’s been particularly rewarding to see the home become part of the family’s framework, and to see them enjoying its modern warmth and landscape.”

The main gathering spaces (living room, family room, kitchen, and pool house) feature sliding glass doors adjacent to cement block walls. When fully opened, interior and exterior spaces are completely contiguous, which supports a tranquil energy and warmth throughout the home. The materiality of the concrete block walls evokes a sense of heaviness and provide a visual, monolithic mass between floors while anchoring the horizontal planes of the home in the landscape. Wood siding wraps the perimeter and sits atop the cement walls, lifting and lightening the massing to create a welcoming balance between earthy and modern.
