AMANA Group launches DuPod offering innovative modular solutions
AMANA, regional design-build contractor, has announced the launch of DuPod, an AMANA company. This innovative modular construction concept manufactures superior quality utility, wellness, retail, and living pods.
In line with AMANA’s mission of championing intelligent solutions that improve the way we build, DuPod offers a multitude of intelligent modular solutions for developers, architects, and contractors across key markets in the region. As part of AMANA’s field-tested modular platform active in the MENA region since 2012, the Pods are manufactured off-site in a factory-controlled environment, increasing efficiency and decreasing waste as well as pollution, which are problems typically associated with traditional construction. DuPod also adapts advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) engineering to enable enhanced project coordination, collaboration, and efficiency between all stakeholders.
Commenting on the launch Ihab Ramlawi, managing director and co-founder of DuPod said: “Modular Construction has been changing the region’s landscape and fast gaining popularity due to the fact that it offers early project deliveries, convenience, and unprecedented certainty of quality and cost. In addition, it is extensively adopted for its versatility in design application. We are proud to be launching DuPod at a time when there is such exceptional demand for sophisticated and tech-enabled construction solutions that accelerate project lifecycle and maximise project value while ensuring first-rate quality and standardisation.”
The productisation process of DuPod requires a migration from traditional construction methods to a processed manufacturing platform. It integrates advanced engineering, supply chain, and operation planning, using technology to streamline the product life cycle, in turn, targeting higher efficiency.
“As factories are becoming more efficient and using artificial intelligence as well as robotics to create modules with more precision, we believe modular construction will play an ever more significant role going forward. Our mission is to continue investing in technological advancements to improve efficiency and we look forward to doing so in the months ahead,” Ramlawi added.

A new video series, launched by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Dubai Chamber), showcases the impactful ways in which it will connect local and global business communities at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The next World Expo will bring together more than 200 participants, including 190-plus nations, as well as businesses, multilateral organisations and educational institutions, to form innovative partnerships that can access exciting new markets and help deliver meaningful and measurable global change.
Dubai Chamber, the Official Business Integrator of Expo 2020 Dubai, will play an essential role in catalysing partnerships for the global business community throughout the six-month mega-event.
The “En Route To The Expo” series focuses on business leaders from the UAE, sharing their thoughts on what they are expecting from the mega-event, as well as their own contribution to the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region.
The video series – developed in collaboration with Entrepreneur Middle East– reflects the dynamism and resilience of Dubai and its business community, as well as the unprecedented opportunities presented by Expo 2020 Dubai.
The first instalment featured an in-depth interview with Expo 2020 Dubai’s Chief Experience Officer Marjan Faraidooni, who highlighted the vital role that Dubai Chamber is playing as a strategic partner supporting the event.
“Expo 2020 Dubai and Dubai Chamber are rallying the local and international business community to connect, network and together find cutting-edge solutions to encourage global partnerships and FDI flows in a post-pandemic world,” said Ms. Faraidooni.
“The Chamber is also playing a very important role in the development and delivery of an unmissable schedule of world-class business programming. For example, together with participating countries and partners, we are designing and curating a series of thematic business forums across the six-month event, most of which are related to specific sectors posing challenges and opportunities for both the local and global business community. The Chamber is also bringing on board three of its flagship global business forums – the Global Business Forum Africa, Global Business Forum ASEAN and Global Business Forum Latin America,” she added.
Commenting on the video series, Hassan Al Hashemi, Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chamber, said that business in Dubai is set to undergo a quantum leap with the city hosting Expo 2020, adding that the mega-event will highlight the economic potential of the UAE and other markets of opportunity.
“Expo 2020 Dubai will be a hugely significant mega-event that will showcase innovations from around the world that address new challenges created by Covid-19, and help businesses prepare for the post-pandemic era. It will be the first major global event that uses technology and a hybrid format to navigate the obstacles presented by a situation that is unprecedented in modern times,” Al Hashemi said.
“Dubai Chamber is fully committed to ensuring that business functions run smoothly at Expo 2020 Dubai, which will serve as a prime example of how major international forums can be held safely and successfully in the post-pandemic era. We are looking forward to finalising our preparations for Expo 2020 and ensuring an ideal platform for local and international businesses to network, connect and collaborate,” he added.
As a new project presented under the banner of Dubai Chamber’s “Business Connect” initiative, the “En Route To The Expo” series can be watched on the websites and social-media channels of Dubai Chamber and Entrepreneur Middle East.
Running from October 1, 2021 until March 31, 2022, and coinciding with the 50-year anniversary of the founding of the UAE, Expo 2020 will bring the world together, creating an open, global dialogue that looks to the future. Millions of visitors from across the globe will be invited join the making of a new world, as they discover life-changing innovations that will have a meaningful, positive impact on both people and planet.

This exhibition is curated by the Embassy of Switzerland in the UAE & Bahrain, in cooperation with partners FREITAG, HyperAktiv, Pro Helvetia Cairo, and the Swiss Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The exhibition highlights Swiss know-how and excellence in cutting-edge and innovative design. The centrepiece of the exhibition is an interactive installation referring to the Swiss Pavilion at the upcoming World Expo and sheds the light on a selection of iconic Swiss design elements.

Expo 2020 Dubai shines spotlight on innovative best practices solving some of the world’s biggest challenges
An environmentally-friendly water treatment plant that has created a wetland in Oman’s desert, a project from the UK building battery-powered underwater fishing lights to reduce unwanted catch, and a UAE-based educational platform that harnesses artificial intelligence to personalise learning experiences for students are among the second stream of projects in Expo 2020 Dubai’s Global Best Practice Programme.
The 20 hand-picked initiatives, known as ‘Untold Stories’, have joined the Programme’s inaugural cohort of 25, whose simple, effective and locally-based solutions address some of the world’s biggest challenges, including those laid out in the Sustainable Development Goals – 17 global goals designed to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
The Global Best Practice Programme highlights the importance of bringing together creative minds to develop innovative solutions and is an integral part of Expo 2020’s commitment to encouraging positive change through cooperation and knowledge sharing.
Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau and Chair of the UAE National Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, said: “These 20 selected projects are already having a real, positive impact on people’s lives, at a time when millions face significant challenges in their lives. With its own area to showcase at Expo 2020, our expanded Global Best Practice Programme is a testament to our continued commitment to projects that the world needs now and reflects the UAE’s wider efforts to drive positive change across a range of key issues globally.
“Projects under the programme will benefit from a unique platform that will bring together change-makers from around the world, facilitating knowledge transfer, global collaboration and inspiring concrete action towards the SDGs, in line with our theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.
Launched in 2018 under the theme ‘Small Steps, Big Leaps: Simple Solutions for Sustainable Impact’, the Programme honours a 2010 Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) mandate for all World Expo hosts to create a platform that spotlights tangible solutions that can be replicated, adapted and scaled for greater global impact – highlighting World Expos as powerful platforms for inspiring change and driving human progress.
Dimitri Kerkentzes, Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), said: “At their core, Expos are educational events that share knowledge and disseminate the latest and most useful innovations for the benefit of all. Uniting the practical perspective of Expos with their core themes, best practices educate and inspire visitors by showcasing tried and tested solutions that can be adopted globally.
“We are delighted to witness the growth of the Best Practice Area at Expo 2020 Dubai and look forward to seeing its continued development as we drive forward in solidarity towards a brighter future.”
The new projects augment the 25 selected last year under the programme’s first stream, a call for proposals that received 1,175 submissions from 141 countries, highlighting the global breadth of impactful, proven initiatives coming from – and having an impact in – all areas of the world. Expo 2020 will offer a unique platform to showcase these solutions, sparking ideas, enhancing collaboration and inspiring further positive change.
They include the Nimr Water Treatment Plant in the south of Oman, one of the largest projects of its kind in the world. Significantly reducing the environmental footprint of the Nimr oilfields south of Muscat, the plant – a constructed wetland – has recovered more than two million barrels of crude oil from produced water and transformed arid desert into a resilient eco-system.
UAE-based Alef Education is providing personalised learning experiences for students so they learn at their own pace, anytime and anywhere. Its artificial intelligence-based platform affords individualised instruction and gives users a choice on how they prefer to learn. To date, the platform has benefitted more than 60,000 students in 200-plus schools across the UAE, as well as three schools in the USA.
Aishah Al Yammahi, Board Advisor, Alef Education, said: “Expo 2020 Dubai represents a melting pot of the latest cutting-edge technologies and innovations from around the world. Alef Education is extremely proud to participate in the World Expo through the Global Best Practice Programme. We are showcasing our innovative, AI-driven educational system, which will help shape the future of education across the UAE and the world.”
UK-based SafetyNet Technologies has also designed underwater lights, known as Pisces, that attract certain fish and repel others. The battery-powered devices, easily affixed to nets, help reduce bycatch and increase sustainability within the global fishing industry. They are currently being deployed across the world.
In contrast to the first stream, a call for proposals where projects applied to the programme and were selected by a jury, projects under the second stream were hand-picked by the Global Best Practice Programme team who actively sought out innovative and successful solutions in the programme’s five key focus areas: inclusive and sustainable service delivery; livelihoods and enterprise development; resilient habitats; social development; and water, food and energy security.
The Global Best Practice Programme and Expo 2020’s specialist programming, which will include themed weeks and international day events to highlight global issues like climate change, health and wellness, inequality and environmental degradation, are among a range of Expo-backed initiatives aimed at positively impacting areas related to the Global Goals.
They will play a crucial role in the next World Expo, which runs from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, helping to create a platform that will facilitate knowledge transfer and global collaboration, and inspire concrete actions for a better future for all.
