ALEC Energy secures DEWA HQ contract to provide a solar photovoltaic solution
ALEC Energy has been awarded the contract to supply a solar photovoltaic solution for the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) new headquarters, Al-Shera’a (Arabic for sail), in the Al Jaddaf area of Dubai.
The solar project will ensure the new DEWA headquarters will reach its net zero targets and that total energy used in the building during a year will be equal to or less than the energy produced onsite in a year. DEWA’s new headquarters has been designed to receive a platinum rating by LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and a gold rating from the WELL Building Standard.

JC Maclean International on the delivery of AED120mn fit-out contract for Reem Mall, Abu Dhabi
JC Maclean International, one of the leading holistic interior fit-out companies in the UAE, takes part in delivering a contemporary world-class retail project, Reem Mall, Abu Dhabi as its Interior Fit-out Contractor.
Reem Mall, winner of the Retail Project of year 2018 – National MEED Quality Project Awards, is being developed by Al Farwaniya Property Developments LLC, with Dewan Architects and Engineers as the lead engineers for the project.
Reem Mall is gearing up to completely transform the shopping experience as we know it, as the world’s first fully enabled, offline-to-online, technology-powered life and business center. The three-storied mega project consists of 450 local and international brands – including global F&B outlets, a dedicated food court, one of the largest hypermarkets in the region, as well as unique family-oriented entertainment and edutainment offerings – anchored by the world’s first indoor snow park, Snow Abu Dhabi. This 10,000 square meters destination will feature a wide range of activities spread across several distinct zones to welcome the whole family. Total built-up area of the mall is accumulated to 600,000m2.
JC Maclean International has been appointed by the Main Contractor of the Project, Itinera SPA and Ghantoot Transport & General Contracting LLC Joint Venture, to execute the Fit-out Works including all types of floor, wall and ceiling finishes, partitions, joinery, and loose furniture for AED 120 million.

SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business awarded lead design contract for Six Flags Qiddiya theme park in KSA
SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business has been awarded the lead design consultant services contract from Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC) for the Six Flags Qiddiya theme park project – located within Qiddiya, Southwest of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Under the three-year contract, Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, will provide integrated lead design consultant, construction supervision, and cost management services. The scope of work includes public realm and necessary infrastructure within the plot area along with validation of the pre-concept design, as well as the development of sustainability and environmental assessment methods, design criteria, and standards of the project.
Six Flags Qiddiya is scheduled for opening during the first phase of Qiddiya – the Kingdom’s Capital of Entertainment, Sports and the Arts. The park will stretch across 32 hectares (79 acres) and feature 28 uniquely themed rides and attractions across six lands: The City of Thrills, Discovery Springs, Steam Town, Twilight Gardens, Valley of Fortune and Grand Exposition. The theme park will provide both recreational and professional opportunities to the Saudi population and boast a number of record-breaking attractions including The Falcon’s Flight, the longest, tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world.

Dilmunia Mosque contract awarded to MSCEB Architects & Engineers
Ithmaar Development Company (IDC) has awarded the design and supervision contract of the Dilmunia Mosque to MSCEB Architects & Engineers. The mosque will enhance Dilmunia’s growing sense of community, as spirituality lies at the heart of Bahrain’s culture.
IDC CEO, Mohammed Alsayed said: “Following several rounds of discussion, the design we developed alongside MSCEB Architects and Engineers reflects Dilmunia’s passion for sustainable iconic buildings that can be inclusive of both modern and traditional architecture. Simplicity, purity and harmony are the themes that we associate with our developments, and they have been integrated into the Mosque’s design. We are targeting construction to begin by the middle of next year, and look forward to working with MSCEB and utilising their expertise to build a one of a kind structure.”
MSCEB managing director Thamer Salahuddin added: “The character of the Mosque’s architecture can be described as a modern interpretation of traditional elements. The simplicity and elegance of the design will enhance the spiritual experience within the mosque as it takes into account the aspect of minimalism we have embodied within our design. The Mosque will include a prayer hall with a capacity for 200 worshippers, segregated male and female worship areas, a multi-use community hall, and a library /reading hall, as well as a car park.
Located on the western side of Dilmunia and strategically positioned at the island’s gateway with a 55-meter water frontage the Dilmunia Mosque will stand-out as a building that is visible and accessible from the adjacent access highway, and is set to a design that is simultaneously breathtaking and functional.

AECOM wins project management contract for Saudi Arabia’s NEOM
AECOM has been appointed to design transport and utilities backbone infrastructure for NEOM, a new model for urbanisation and sustainability located in the Northwest region of Saudi Arabia. In addition to design services, AECOM’s scope will also include environmental and geotechnical support.

This contract builds on AECOM’s appointment in July 2019 to provide project management consultancy services for phase 1 construction in NEOM.
