Havelock One Interiors completes turnkey fit-out of new Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in Bahrain
Havelock One Interiors, a leading turnkey fit-out contractor and manufacturer in the Middle East, implemented the interiors for the Hilton Garden Inn, an upscale yet affordable business and leisure hotel, nestled in the heart of the Bahrain Bay.
The 23-storey landmark destination opened its doors to guests mid-July this year. The hotel tower comprises 192 rooms, including 35 suites, with a mix of family, twin and king rooms. Covering 269,098 sq. ft., the hotel has other distinctively designed amenities such as an open all-day restaurant, meeting rooms, a gym, and an infinity pool.
Havelock One’s manufacturing and fit-out teams based in Askar and Sanabis, Bahrain completed the turnkey interior fit-out of this four-star property designed by dwp | design worldwide partnership. The hotel overlooks the Bahrain Bay and has a breath-taking view from its public areas, complimented with soothing sea-inspired hues and colour palettes for the interiors. The design vision of this hospitality project is to reflect the emergence of a unique urban hotel, anchored between a vibrant shopping mall—The Avenues Bahrain—and the bay leading out to the sea.
“Having completed the Hilton Garden Inn – Kuwait in 2019, we were very keen on the award of the fit-out packages for the property in Bahrain. The brand is young, vibrant and has a playful undercurrent, which allows us to be innovative with the specified materials and design features. Fortunately, our off-site mock-up rooms convinced all stakeholders, so we were recommended to manufacture the custom joinery, to carry out the finishing of the hotel’s interiors, as well as to coordinate all MEP works integration with the interiors,” says Jihad Raad, Division Director, Hospitality Manufacturing and Fit-out Bahrain at Havelock One.
Since Havelock One and its supply chain partners had been responsible for the mock-ups, already, they were able to fast-track and deliver the project even with the COVID-19 pandemic overshadowing the execution period. While the factory in Askar manufactured and supplied large ceiling panels, reception counters, banquet seating, tables, countertop, doors, sliding doors and complete millworks for the guest rooms, the fit-out team carefully selected premium materials for the finishes, which included regular and acoustic gypsum cladding, corridor wall cladding, painting, wallcoverings, tiling, carpets, glass and massive operable partition works.
“One of the eye-catching installations in the Hilton Garden Inn is their rickshaw (Tuk-Tuk) food truck located in the Together & Co Lobby Café. A Bajaj rickshaw was sourced by Havelock One and fully customised into a service station. This feature demanded our setting-out experts to develop a 3D digital design to fully understand and cater to the needs of the operator and to integrate the exact MEP requirements. The scope of the project also featured additional decorative items, such as a custom beam ceiling installation in the all-day dining area and customised operable partitions with pass doors in the meeting rooms,” adds Raad.
This fast-track project required a high-level of planning and coordination among all stakeholders, and hence the interior fit-out scope started along with the main construction works on-site to ensure that the Hilton Garden Inn Bahrain Bay was ready for its recent launch.

Havelock One Interiors signs three new turnkey fit-out contracts with Empire Cinemas KSA
After successfully completing projects in Jizan and Al Khobar, the regional interior contractor has been entrusted by the entertainment specialist with bringing more of its cinemas to life.
Lebanese cinema chain Empire Cinemas is on track to fulfil its part in the Vision 2030 of supporting a vibrant and culturally aware society by adding three more destinations to its KSA network of a combined project investment of USD 25m. The three new multiplexes at Othaim Mall – Al Ahssa (8 screens, 714 seats, 2,886sqm), Al Rashid Mega Mall – Madina (10 screens, 744 seats, 3,250sqm) and Othaim Mall Rabwah – Riyadh (10 screens, 1,254 seats, 4,785sqm) are all conceptualised by Empire’s long-standing design partner, DNA Architects & Planners and fitted-out by Havelock One Interiors.
In 2019, Empire Cinemas celebrated its 100th anniversary by entering the Saudi market, following a call by the Development Investment Entertainment Company (DIEC) to establish and advance the cinema sector in Saudi Arabia. The first venue, a 10-screen, 728-seat multiplex at Al Rashed Mall in Jizan marked a milestone for the family business, founded by visionary Georges N. Haddad and now being led by its third generation. Gino Haddad, CEO of Empire Cinemas, said, “It’s our vision to develop our brand portfolio and expand our geographical coverage by propagating our legacy and passion across the region: entertainment.”
Given Havelock One’s track record as a premium turnkey service provider in the cinemas and indoor entertainment space, Empire had selected the interior contractor to build this first project within 280 days, covering supply, installation and the commissioning of architectural and interior decoration, joinery and MEP works. Later, a contract for the recently completed Empire Cinemas at Al Rashid Mall in Al Khobar, followed, a much larger and more complex project featuring 18 theatres, including three auditoria for kids, two Dolby Atmos movie theatres, three VIP and one immersive 4DX cinema, covering a total space of more than 6,200 sqm.
Commenting on the award of the latest projects, Haddad added: “We are proud to be collaborating again with Havelock One, following the successful outcome of our Al Khobar and Jizan venues. Havelock One has proven to be a reliable fit-out partner, with excellent onsite management skills, and prompt delivery timelines.”
Syed Kashif Akhtar, Group Managing Director of Havelock One, expressed equal delight in having the opportunity to further strengthen the relationship with Empire Cinemas. “In the business of service delivery, nothing is a better testimony of a job well done than repeat business. We are grateful and pleased that our manufacturing in Bahrain and our fit-out teams in KSA keep on delivering for prestigious entertainment clients such as Empire Cinemas.”
Empire’s relationship with Havelock One is not the only one evolving. Since the beginning, Lebanese architectural and interior design firm DNA has been supporting the cinema operator’s expansion in Saudi Arabia. DNA’s designs follow Empire’s ambition to offer the latest technology in a convenient and comfortable setting, while tailoring every cinema’s venue to the specific market and customer preferences.
Dany G. Daoud, Managing Director of DNA explained, “For Jizan, due to a corner location, we extended the entrance to the mall’s common area to maximise the visual perception. A sculpted trail consisting of digital screens, dynamic motion light effects and Empire’s prominent self-ticketing kiosks further increased the appeal of the movie theatre for shoppers and mall visitors. The design of the Al Khobar multiplex even incorporates a more abstract dimension; the fact that the city is built on the crossroads of different highways, connecting Al Khobar with Dhahran-Jubail and Bahrain-Dammam, has been reflected in a transitional walk. More tangible aspects of the city, like its long corniche and industrial history, have shaped the urban language and an outdoor street atmosphere of the cinema’s interiors.”
This conceptual complexity allowed Havelock One to showcase its ability to translate a strong design vision into reality. The metal department created container structures by corrugating and powder-coating metal sheets; the local fit-out team worked with Saudi graffiti artist Ali Al Zourib to add street credibility. Similarly, the transition from the mall into the centre of the multiplex is expressed by a passage panelled with back-painted glass and illuminated with multi-coloured LED strips that are core to creating a captivating visual experience for the cinemagoers before they have even reached their chosen auditorium.
One of the three upcoming projects, the one in Al Rabwa, Riyadh will offer a shift in dimensions for its guests. The public area facing the concession is a static space, whereas, once crossing the gates, customers get to experience a dramatic transition to another dynamic and dreamy “dimension”, playing with the experience of gravity and space. The cinema’s interiors will create an illusion that resembles falling towards a main focal element, the bridge, diagonally axing a rectangular void.
“Joining forces with Empire and DNA is always a great, rewarding challenge,” said Nigel Wilson, Division Director of Havelock One KSA. “They have truly understood how to engage and excite a young and entertainment-hungry crowd that is just at the beginning of its evolution.” He further elaborated, “Over the two previous projects, Empire, DNA and the Havelock One team have become truly accustomed to each other’s way of working. Now, this can be all brought together to provide a blueprint for seamless, integrated and collaborative delivery.”
Based on the project timelines of 240-280 days, the Empire Cinemas in Al Ahssa, Madina and Riyadh are expected to open in summer 2022.

Materials are chosen to be robust and neutral, acting as a backdrop to the main attractions within, and the combination of digital screens and themed artwork creates an environment suited to all age groups. Despite the challenges of COVID-19 restrictions during the height of the pandemic, Havelock One’s KSA-based fit-out team managed to implement the project within a tight timeline of five months.
Products and materials specified and sourced internationally that caused logistical challenges were addressed with temporary solutions from local providers; Havelock One’s factory in Askar, Bahrain manufactured all joinery, seating, tables and feature ceiling items as well as the F&B counter and bulkhead made of laminated patterned glass.

Havelock One completes the fit-out of Patchi outlet at Bahrain City Centre; manufactures bespoke units for the retail shop as well
Havelock One Interiors has successfully completed the retail shopfitting and manufacturing of bespoke units for Patchi’s boutique concept outlet at Bahrain City Centre.
Covering 2,530sqft on the first floor of the mall, the store design for the premium chocolate experience resembles an exclusive yet modern jewellery boutique with wall and tabletop glass cases filled with elegantly wrapped chocolate boxes.
“We are proud to have partnered with Patchi and collaborated with their project architect Parisotto + Formenton Architetti of Italy and MEP consultant SYDEN of Lebanon to meet the specifics of this delicacies store,” says Jihad Raad, Division Director, Bespoke Hospitality Manufacturing and Fit-Out at Havelock One.
The design vision of the Patchi brand turned fruitful by extending a collaborative approach between the brand managers and the interior design studio. The primary aim of Parisotto + Formenton Architetti was to create a contemporary retail, design-oriented space that frames and glorifies the excellence that Patchi represents in its field while addressing the expectations of their sophisticated clientele. With this objective in mind, the interior design architect aimed at celebrating the pleasure of tasting chocolates, of sharing and enjoying moments, as they believe sweet delights are a real luxury treat. Hence, the concept of the design includes a striking architectural box, emphasising the excellence that Patchi represents in the world of premium chocolates.
“We had the chance to be part of an evolution of the Patchi stores since 2015 with the addition of their dine-in cafes. This new style of point-of-sale offers Patchi the benefit to carry out the sale of chocolates/gifts. At the same time the concept integrates seating areas to offer the experience of enjoying desserts and chocolate-based drinks to customers for a full Patchi immersion,” says Antigone Acconci, Architect at Parisotto + Formenton.
The store design is enriched by a precise choice of materials that include Travertino Navona and Natural Oak for the flooring. The adaptation of different laying schemes and formats play together to form the design of the surface. The walls feature different treatments, flat or tridimensionality for a more dynamic look, and the space houses different libraries designed to offer a focused display, thus, to highlight the products on show.
“Chocolate is the most important protagonist on the stage of the counters that play the role of a glorifier for the range of Patchi chocolate products. Hence, the other most important element of the design was defining the atmosphere of the space, using light. We worked closely with the Italian lighting company Viabizzuno, mixing commercial products with custom-made fixtures especially designed for Patchi to ensure the right ambience,” adds Ms Acconci.
Havelock One’s joinery and fit-out teams collaborated to meet the specifics of Patchi Chocolate shop fittings amid COVID-19 mall closures. The illuminated brand sign on the black façade with the large glass panels mounted throughout the store invites shoppers to take a break and enjoy a treat. The shop fittings were completed with marble and wooden flooring, furnished with illuminated display tables and wall cabinets, giving the outlet a feel of luxury, elegance, and exclusivity.
