The Museum of the Future: A New Beacon for knowledge and innovation
Driven by the wise vision of its leadership, as always, Dubai has brought to life a one of a kind hub, for visionaries, talents and great minds from around the globe to shape the future, it is the eagerly-awaited “Museum of the Future”, which will open its doors to the rest of the world on February 22, 2022, welcoming guests to embark on a journey to the year 2071.
From Dubai and the UAE to the rest of the world, the Museum of the Future is a ‘living museum’ aiming to contribute to a deep intellectual movement, through connecting thinkers and experts from around the world and acting as a test bed for future generations to create innovative solutions for the challenges facing society. As described by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Museum of the Future is “the most beautiful building on Earth”. It is a spectacular building that speaks Arabic, representing the revival of Arab excellence in the fields of science, mathematics and research, and an appreciation of the past Arab intellectuals that aims at resuming Arab civilization and renaissance.
Rising 77 metres above the ground, the striking structure is an architectural marvel, built by using robotic technology and with an emphasis on sustainability. The building is powered with 4,000 megawatts of solar energy. The pillarless structure is home to seven unique and distinct floors. For its visitors, the museum comprises an unparalleled window to experience the future in all its aspects and dimensions.
The Museum of the Future employs the latest technologies of virtual and augmented reality, data analysis, artificial intelligence and human machine interaction. Answering many questions related to the future of humans, cities, societies, life on planet Earth and outer space, the museum’s exhibits orchestrate a world beyond human knowledge, providing visitors with innovative experiences unfold across five different exhibitions that explore the future of space travel and living, climate change and ecology, health, wellness, and spirituality.
Coming face-to-face with never-seen-before space technology and getting introduced to humanity’s home in outer space, the visitor’s journey begins in the depths of our solar system. Paying tribute to the inspiring Emirates Mars Mission project that saw the Hope Probe successfully enter Mars’ orbit last year, this exhibit compliments a crowning milestone for the UAE and the Arab World.
The Museum of the Future experience encourages its visitors to partake in special missions and, unlike a traditional museum that showcases fragments of the past, it provides a portal to the future, in a scientific attempt to explore its variables, potential challenges and expected characteristics
The immersive experience will also see its visitors in an entirely new environment as they are re-introduced to planet Earth, the future of healing, sustainability and bioengineering technology. Reflecting the UAE’s ongoing work in sustainability and environmental stability, this part of the visitors’ journey also highlights the UAE position as one of the first countries to announce its commitment to achieving climate neutrality by 2050, and a homage to the country’s efforts in planning to host the 28th United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) in Abu Dhabi in 2023.
In an environment centred around health, wellbeing and the sense of self, visitors will embark on a peaceful and empowering journey, as light will be shed on reconnecting to human senses and learning to detach from the personal immense use of technology. The Museum of the Future will also showcase novel innovations from the near future through its partnerships with industry-leading companies and organisations to highlight emerging technologies and trends created for the betterment of humanity.
Believing that the future does not have an age preference, this museum will provide children with dedicated experience that encourages their youngest minds to explore and learn several future-proofing skills through an open-world experience, in a step that helps them to innovate, and allows them to create the future they look forward to and to be a pivotal part of its characteristics.
As the new global scientific landmark and a beacon of knowledge, the Museum of the Future will become the headquarter to the ‘Great Arab Minds’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in search for 1,000 great Arab minds.

Du Enters Into Partnership With IBM To Increase Innovation In Cybersecurity Services
Through the new collaboration with IBM, du is expected to further its innovation in the field of data security while also scaling and improving its existing services to create unique solutions that cater to a variety of end-user requirements.
UAE-based telecommunications operator du has partnered with American multinational technology corporation IBM to leverage the latter’s security software and solutions across its Digital Trust portfolio and its Cyber Defense Centre.
Through this new collaboration with IBM, du hopes to accelerate its innovations in the field of data security, while also scaling and improving its existing services to create unique solutions that cater to a variety of end-user requirements.
“With digital transformation accelerating rapidly and new threats continually presenting themselves, organizations tasked with protecting communities of customers are required to expand their cybersecurity capabilities at every available opportunity,” said Martin Tarr, Chief ICT Officer (Acting) at du. “As such, we are delighted that we will meet this obligation once more with support from IBM. Constant engagement with best-in-class partners is an enduring principle our company adheres to, and we look forward to working with IBM in the years ahead to deliver cutting-edge solutions that leverage global expertise and the very best technologies.”
“Digital transformation is now more critical than ever, and we have lately seen tremendous increase in client demand for our capabilities and expertise across our region, specially on the cybersecurity front,” added Hossam Seif El Din, IBM General Manager in the Middle East and Pakistan. “In the Middle East, IBM’s business partner ecosystem is central to our growth strategy, and we are proud of collaborating with du to help businesses in the region to not only respond to the ever-increasing security incidents, but also supporting them to proactively protect their businesses from emerging threats.”
du’s partnership with IBM is expected to bolster operations centered around protecting the digital environments and infrastructure of its enterprise customers and government entities from cyber-attacks. In due course, du will also leverage cutting-edge technology with open standards, combining it with internal intellectual property to deliver next generation Security Operations Center (SOC) services to clients and consumers. At the same time, du will benefit from unique expertise and specialist knowledge from global markets, which is certain to support efforts to empower enterprise and government initiatives further.
The announcement of the partnership follows a recent study by IBM that did an in-depth analysis of over 500 real-world data breaches occurring over the past year across 17 countries, and found that the Middle East region is the second highest average breach cost amongst the 17 regions studied. du’s tie-up with IBM also aligns with the UAE’s National Agenda mandate to build sustainable digital infrastructure and embrace technological innovation without compromising security.
As for the du Cyber Defense Centre, which was launched in June 2021 with the aim to mitigate cyber threats that put businesses at risk through the use of proven use cases, leading technologies, and a global team of security analysts, IBM’s QRadar® Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) is already its cornerstone, with it helping security teams accurately detect and prioritize enterprise threats, while providing intelligent insights that enable prudent responses and minimize incident impacts.
With the the new partnership, the Centre will now provide even greater value and support to clients in the enterprise and government spaces. In addition to a process-driven approach, fully managed service, always-on security, and peace of mind through an established team of security experts, multiple layers of integrated security solutions will also deliver comprehensive ICT ecosystem protection.

Together for Innovation – Design Middle East
Roberto Palomba, Chief Design Officer at Ideal Standard on World Together Tour’s recent Dubai edition, smart technology, and innovative technology
Tell us more about the Together World Tour.
The Together World Tour allows us to speak with members of our network. It began during a time when we were unable to meet in person. Because we usually meet individuals at trade events in Milan or Frankfurt, and we didn’t have the opportunity to do so during the pandemic. As a result, rather than having them come to us, we said: “let’s go and visit the people”. We noticed that by taking this world tour, we were able to incorporate our teams, local teams, not just architects, but all our team members. Every step of the Together World Tour has been unique; it was not a way to market our goods, but rather to share them with people from various cultures. They believe that what is local can be global. We chose the name World Tour because we want to bring specific cultures from around the world on a global platform.
How does the edition in Dubai vary from the ones in Milan, Paris, and London?
On November 21, 2021, our tour’s Avant-premiere took place at the Belgium Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. VIP visitors from the architecture and interior design industries attended the event. In addition to a video presentation, the occasion hosted a panel discussion with guest speakers Architect Janus Rostock, CEO of Signal, Architect Joe Tabet, Founder of JT+ Partners, Interior Designer Kristina Zanic, CEO of Kristina Zanic Consultants, Dr Robert Platt, Vice President Visitor Experience at Expo 2020 Dubai, Ahmad Alsalami, Head of Building Systems Development Unit at Dubai Municipality, and me. Every stop has a unique story to tell. I must admit that I was a bit selective in choosing the stops. I chose not only the most important locations but also those that I enjoy visiting. I was pleased to choose Dubai since I believe it is crucial to the current era in which we live. Because it reflects a fantastic dream: a grid of people from all over the world who’re sharing culture, emotions, problems, and so on.
What has been the reactions to the tour so far?
Since its launch in April, the Together World Tour has visited Milan, Berlin, London, Paris and now Dubai – deep-diving into the dynamic culture of each city and exploring their impact on the world of bathroom design. There is a lot of enthusiasm. People were surprised to hear a brand like ours talk so openly and in a different language. While we were expected to send out catalogues or just demonstrate things to market, this was not the case. They discovered connections, sharing, emotions, information, innovations, and all these kinds of things that normally are not used by designers. The bathroom is a significant aspect of your home. Our company is constantly innovating and developing high-quality products that set the bar. We collaborate with several talented designers who assist us in developing innovative and great products.
How has smart technology influenced bathware designs?
Continuing on the theme of innovation, we presented Intellimix, Ideal Standard’s most pioneering product. Intellimix is a smart touchless tap that makes superior hygiene effortless with a timed delivery of water and soap from the same device. Its optimised wash cycle reduces the spread of harmful bacteria and viruses and saves on water consumption. Events of the past year have reinforced the importance of hygiene across the globe – which is not only impacting human behaviour but has also permanently changed the requirements for public washroom design. It’s more critical than ever that these shared spaces, and the technology in them, are designed with the end user’s health and protection in mind. Intellimix has been introduced to meet these demands by improving hygiene and making it easier than ever before to ensure that all building users are handwashing effectively. Not only that, but it also contributes to achieving sustainability targets, while helping businesses save costs.
Which has been your favourite city so far?
I don’t have a favourite because every city is so different from the other. There’s so much to learn and understand from each city.
What role does sustainability play as part of your brand?
Today, sustainability is critical. From product planning to product development, it is a topic that must be considered. As a result, it’s something concrete, and we consider it at all levels. Events of the past year have reinforced the importance of hygiene across the globe – which is not only impacting human behaviour but has also permanently changed the requirements for public washroom design. It’s more critical than ever that these shared spaces, and the technology in them, are designed with the end user’s health and protection in mind.
What are some of the most exciting projects you’re working on?
Yes, we have a lot of exciting projects, especially in the Middle East, where we are working in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and UAE. Numerous hospitality and residential projects are coming up here, and we’re working with some fantastic brands.
