Smart washroom technology specialist VERTECO introduces latest cutting-edge offering in the MENA region
VERTECO, the forward-thinking specialist in smart washroom technologies, smart water management ,and water conservation solutions, introduces the region to LooLights, the company’s latest cutting-edge offering. The revolutionary new product is designed to help ease congestion in busy washrooms and direct customers to vacant cubicles.
By utilising VERTECO’s smart technologies, LooLights can accurately determine cubicle occupancies within washrooms at airports, stadiums, malls and other busy public spaces that experience high footfall.
The system is similar to the way a car park shows visitors where the available parking spaces are. Fitted above each washroom cubicle door, LooLightsTM help manage people flow by showing green for vacant cubicles, red for engaged and blue for People of Determination.
The occupancy data can also be displayed on a screen outside the washroom showing users if there is any availability. The system is connected to all washrooms in the building, so if all cubicles are occupied, the screen can direct the user to the nearest alternative washroom.
Real-time occupancy data that the system collects using VERTECO’s sensor-driven 3D IoT solutions can then be easily viewed and analysed on a desktop or mobile device, and business owners can use these insights to improve their operational efficiencies.
LooLights are already widely used in airports and shopping malls across the USA and Europe. Now, with the support of VERTECO, MENA businesses from across a whole range of sectors can reap the benefits of this ingenious solution.
David King, managing director of VERTECO for the MENA Region, commented: “As the world recovers from COVID-19, washroom cleanliness and social distancing remains key. It’s now more important than ever to monitor washroom occupancy levels and make sure they remain hygienic, safe, and uncrowded environments.
“Introducing LooLights to businesses across the MENA region is a step forward to help organisations achieve the best possible hygiene levels. This solution has a modern design and a simple installation process. The carefully thought out LooLightsTM system doesn’t require locks, latches or deadbolts to be able to identify when a cubicle is occupied or not. This means that it gathers exceptionally accurate data and is less likely to break down”.

AMANA Group launches DuPod offering innovative modular solutions
AMANA, regional design-build contractor, has announced the launch of DuPod, an AMANA company. This innovative modular construction concept manufactures superior quality utility, wellness, retail, and living pods.
In line with AMANA’s mission of championing intelligent solutions that improve the way we build, DuPod offers a multitude of intelligent modular solutions for developers, architects, and contractors across key markets in the region. As part of AMANA’s field-tested modular platform active in the MENA region since 2012, the Pods are manufactured off-site in a factory-controlled environment, increasing efficiency and decreasing waste as well as pollution, which are problems typically associated with traditional construction. DuPod also adapts advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) engineering to enable enhanced project coordination, collaboration, and efficiency between all stakeholders.
Commenting on the launch Ihab Ramlawi, managing director and co-founder of DuPod said: “Modular Construction has been changing the region’s landscape and fast gaining popularity due to the fact that it offers early project deliveries, convenience, and unprecedented certainty of quality and cost. In addition, it is extensively adopted for its versatility in design application. We are proud to be launching DuPod at a time when there is such exceptional demand for sophisticated and tech-enabled construction solutions that accelerate project lifecycle and maximise project value while ensuring first-rate quality and standardisation.”
The productisation process of DuPod requires a migration from traditional construction methods to a processed manufacturing platform. It integrates advanced engineering, supply chain, and operation planning, using technology to streamline the product life cycle, in turn, targeting higher efficiency.
“As factories are becoming more efficient and using artificial intelligence as well as robotics to create modules with more precision, we believe modular construction will play an ever more significant role going forward. Our mission is to continue investing in technological advancements to improve efficiency and we look forward to doing so in the months ahead,” Ramlawi added.

New video series puts the spotlight on Expo 2020 Dubai’s innovative business offering
A new video series, launched by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Dubai Chamber), showcases the impactful ways in which it will connect local and global business communities at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The next World Expo will bring together more than 200 participants, including 190-plus nations, as well as businesses, multilateral organisations and educational institutions, to form innovative partnerships that can access exciting new markets and help deliver meaningful and measurable global change.
Dubai Chamber, the Official Business Integrator of Expo 2020 Dubai, will play an essential role in catalysing partnerships for the global business community throughout the six-month mega-event.
The “En Route To The Expo” series focuses on business leaders from the UAE, sharing their thoughts on what they are expecting from the mega-event, as well as their own contribution to the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region.
The video series – developed in collaboration with Entrepreneur Middle East– reflects the dynamism and resilience of Dubai and its business community, as well as the unprecedented opportunities presented by Expo 2020 Dubai.
The first instalment featured an in-depth interview with Expo 2020 Dubai’s Chief Experience Officer Marjan Faraidooni, who highlighted the vital role that Dubai Chamber is playing as a strategic partner supporting the event.
“Expo 2020 Dubai and Dubai Chamber are rallying the local and international business community to connect, network and together find cutting-edge solutions to encourage global partnerships and FDI flows in a post-pandemic world,” said Ms. Faraidooni.
“The Chamber is also playing a very important role in the development and delivery of an unmissable schedule of world-class business programming. For example, together with participating countries and partners, we are designing and curating a series of thematic business forums across the six-month event, most of which are related to specific sectors posing challenges and opportunities for both the local and global business community. The Chamber is also bringing on board three of its flagship global business forums – the Global Business Forum Africa, Global Business Forum ASEAN and Global Business Forum Latin America,” she added.
Commenting on the video series, Hassan Al Hashemi, Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chamber, said that business in Dubai is set to undergo a quantum leap with the city hosting Expo 2020, adding that the mega-event will highlight the economic potential of the UAE and other markets of opportunity.
“Expo 2020 Dubai will be a hugely significant mega-event that will showcase innovations from around the world that address new challenges created by Covid-19, and help businesses prepare for the post-pandemic era. It will be the first major global event that uses technology and a hybrid format to navigate the obstacles presented by a situation that is unprecedented in modern times,” Al Hashemi said.
“Dubai Chamber is fully committed to ensuring that business functions run smoothly at Expo 2020 Dubai, which will serve as a prime example of how major international forums can be held safely and successfully in the post-pandemic era. We are looking forward to finalising our preparations for Expo 2020 and ensuring an ideal platform for local and international businesses to network, connect and collaborate,” he added.
As a new project presented under the banner of Dubai Chamber’s “Business Connect” initiative, the “En Route To The Expo” series can be watched on the websites and social-media channels of Dubai Chamber and Entrepreneur Middle East.
Running from October 1, 2021 until March 31, 2022, and coinciding with the 50-year anniversary of the founding of the UAE, Expo 2020 will bring the world together, creating an open, global dialogue that looks to the future. Millions of visitors from across the globe will be invited join the making of a new world, as they discover life-changing innovations that will have a meaningful, positive impact on both people and planet.

This newest sustainable community in Abu Dhabi is offering Spanish-inspired villas!
Jubail Island Investment Company has unveiled its designs for the first phase of villas currently under construction, offering Mediterranean-inspired living at the heart of Abu Dhabi’s newest sustainable community.
With four distinct styles to choose from, the villas provide a range of unique designs to suit buyers and are available for sale immediately. The developer has drawn inspiration from the historical styling of original Spanish haciendas, offering residents a contemporary, stylish and unique family residence amid a beautiful natural setting.
Taking design cues from traditional Spanish architecture such as overhanging terracotta pitched roofs, coloured external renders and classic Spanish metalwork, the villas represent an organic, luxurious and modern take on the hacienda. In addition to main entry courtyards, special features include towers concealing staircases, balconies, and colonnades as well as covered terraces – all adding the element of discovery, yet facilitating practical living spaces for modern families.
The Mediterranean-style villas will be offered across multiple villages in Jubail Island: Marfaa Al Jubail, Souk Al Jubail and Seef Al Jubail, and Nad Al Dhabi.
Mounir Haidar, managing director of Jubail Island Investment Company, said: “We are delighted to announce that our Mediterranean villas are on sale, providing families with a traditional design built to the most modern standards of construction using the best materials available.”
“Set amid Abu Dhabi’s outstanding natural beauty, discerning purchasers have the choice of four separate styles – yet each one connects luxury with the aesthetic of a true hacienda house. We set out to demonstrate a sense of Mediterranean architecture mixed with the luxurious, bespoke features that perfectly represent the vision of Jubail Island. These villas are perfect for families seeking a harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary living,” stated Haidar.
