Katharine Pooley: Exquisite, Award-winning Spaces

Established over 19 years ago, Katharine Pooley is one of the most respected, creative and original British luxury interior designers working worldwide today. Named as “British Interior Designer of the Decade,” “International Designer of the Year, Asia” and “Entrepreneur of the Year,” Katharine’s London-based luxury interior design studio is recognized globally for her innovative designs and exquisite, award-winning spaces. Katharine champions the finest British craftsmen, working with only the best furniture, lighting and cabinet makers to create richly layered, high-quality, luxury interiors for clients’ projects throughout the world, including Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East.

Historic London Home

Inspired by the property’s illustrious past, Katharine Pooley designed the interior and architectural design of this 40,000 sq ft majestic, stucco-fronted private home overlooking London’s leafy Hyde Park. Previously an important ambassador’s residence, the property was purchased by an existing client for full renovation of its dilapidated, historic moldings, marble staircases and parquet and marble flooring. Drawing on the building’s rich heritage, this is one of Katharine’s most highly detailed and opulent interior designs yet, with every facet of this jewel of a property reinstated, refurbished or created anew, making it the epitome of luxury London interior design. Moreover, Katharine’s team of interior architects, interior designers, furniture designers and home dressing experts created a full ‘turn key’ design in less than six months; an impressive feat given its size. Truly one of London’s finest homes, Katharine has been honored to design its interior for a client with tremendous vision.

Hyde Park Apartment

Completely redesigned by Katharine for a returning client, this large, lateral, residential apartment has impressive panoramic views overlooking London’s leafy Hyde Park. Inspired by the property’s Art Deco façade, the luxury interior design incorporates the client’s love of intricate detail and exquisite finishes. With exquisite inlaid bronze details, classic Italian marbles and high gloss walnut and maple woods, Katharine’s multi-faceted design creates a luxurious feel, with strong, masculine overtones to reflect the glamorous lifestyle of this international client who loves to entertain. The back-lit onyx bar and faceted, rock crystal chandelier in the dining room create an interior that is both luxurious and impressive. The final result is a highly detailed, opulent interior befitting of the client’s impressive collection of large-scale artworks that adorn and complement the Hyde Park apartment’s interior design.

Cheyne Gardens

This lateral apartment, situated beside the lush Chelsea Physic Gardens, is part of an imposing row of red brick townhouses one one of London’s most exclusive roads. The final luxurious interior has a chic, contemporary, design aesthetic, with a serene and harmonious open-plan feel. The apartment features crisp linear architectural detailing and beautiful bespoke furniture in every room. A handful of large-scale, striking paintings in monochromatic hues form an elegant backdrop for a collection of notable Mid-Century furniture and exquisite, sculptural, lighting pieces. Katharine chose a sumptuous marble fireplace in the light-toned living room while alabaster, bronze detailing, hand-woven fabrics and intricate timber marquetry feature throughout this elegant and timeless interior.

Knightsbridge Townhouse

Set in one of London’s most peaceful garden squares, this Knightsbridge, stucco-fronted Grade II listed property is a beautiful example of Katharine Pooley’s dedication to clients, speedily transforming this home for a returning client. Refined, elegant and calm, the interior design brings together the best of luxury materials and expert artisan craftsmanship, as seen in the stunning bronze lacquered kitchen, Murano glass chandelier and seamless marble bathrooms. Embracing the high ceilings, existing intricate moldings and detailed plasterwork, Katharine’s luxury interior design embraces the best of traditional Knightsbridge architecture with the innovations of luxury interior design, creating a magnificent family home complete with balcony views across the immaculate communal gardens.

Kensington Home

Originally built in 1873 as a coach house serving nearby Kent House, Katharine Pooley has painstakingly restored this 6,000 sqft private residence, with its imposing redbrick and white stucco townhouse overlooking Hyde Park. The final luxury interior, carefully pieced together over two years, artfully balances a contemporary design aesthetic with rich, historic detailing, reflecting the heritage of Knightsbridge’s Rutland Gardens, the unique gated road in which this Kensington property resides. Standout architectural features include the intricately inlaid marble entrance hall floor; a linear, bronze staircase scrolling gracefully upwards through the building; and generous sash windows to both the front and rear façade which flood each of the seven floors with natural light.

The Lancasters

Based in London’s prestigious ‘The Lancasters’ building, overlooking Hyde Park, this French Renaissance style Grade II listed façade is an attractive front to the bright and contemporary living spaces inside. Taking two existing dwellings totaling 7,500 sqft of space, Katharine and her luxury interior design studio have renovated the property using sympathetic architectural detailing, thoughtful use of finishes and careful space planning to create this sophisticated residential home, with elegant reception rooms suitable for entertaining along with cozy lounge areas for quality family time. Inspired by the stunning views from the front of the property, a tranquil, natural theme radiates throughout the project. Katharine’s variety of different glass techniques chosen for the main pendants keeps the feeling of space within the double-height rooms, allowing the light to reflect and bounce off the surrounding surfaces to maximize their presence. Paying homage to the style and history of the listed building’s interior design, Katharine and her team’s final design is befitting of this fine, historic residence.
